Campus Health Service

Fearless in pursuit of Wellness

Numerous staff members from Nelson Mandela University George Campus put aside any fear of needles they may harbour to make use of the health screening services offered by the Wellness team from the university’s Occupational Health Centre during a two-day visit to the campus during September.

Staff were monitored for Cholesterol, Glucose (blood sugar level), and Blood pressure and advised on how they performed on the Body Mass Index, accompanied by advice on how to stay healthy.

The Campus Principal, Prof Quinton Johnson, broke the ice, while others, such as Siphokhazi Nodude (Placement Officer, Student Housing) and Thami Douse (Communication & Stakeholder Liaison) followed suite.

The Wellness Team - Valencia Benjamin and Kobus Magielies - are both Occupational Health Practitioners by profession. The Wellness Campaign is conducted annually across all campuses of the university as a free value-adding service to staff.
